Gili Islands has three beautiful islands located at Lombok Nusa Tenggara Barat such us Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air. Gili Trawangan is the largest of Lombok’s Gili Islands and is the only one to rise significantly above sea level. It is 3 km long and 2 km wide with a population of about 700. Of the Gilis, Trawangan has the most tourist facilities; the pub Tîr na Nôg claims that Trawangan is the smallest island in the world with an Irish pub.
The most crowded part of Trawangan lies on the eastern side. It is administered under Lombok Barat Regency along with Senggigi Beach.
There are several ways how to get to Gili Islands:
Flight from Denpasar – Bali
The fastest way to get Gili Islands is by airline. The flights leave from Ngurah Rai Airport, Denpasar, Bali to Mataram. It takes about 25 minutes , an hour by taxi to Bangsal and 45 minutes by local ferry to Gili Trawangan’s south coast. After that little adventure you’re cruising.
Fast Boat from Padang Bai – Bali
A handful of fast boat operators depart from Padang Bai to the Gili islands in the mornings between 09.00 am and 09.30 am. Most people spend the night in Kuta and take the shuttle bus to Padang Bai in the morning. A much nicer way to do it is to spend the night in Padang Bai instead and bypass the madness and sleaze of Kuta. You can see any fast boats here.
